About KinMap

KinMap is an independent product built by one person who wanted his own family to know where to start — without handing anyone the keys to his accounts.

Dave Truett, founder of KinMap

Hi, I’m Dave Truett.

I’m a husband, a father of three, and a lifelong personal finance nerd. My professional career is in risk management, which mostly means asking one question over and over: if something unexpected happened tomorrow, would the people who depend on this know what to do?

My wife and I have been planning our family’s finances for the last 20 years. Over that time we’ve built up what most households do — bank and retirement accounts, insurance policies, a house, important papers in a few different places, and the names of the people who help us.

KinMap is my answer to that risk. It’s a simple, organized map of what exists, who owns it, where the real records are, and who to call — shared only with the people we choose. It deliberately asks for less information than a vault or an aggregator, because your family doesn’t need access to your bank account. They need to know it exists.

How KinMap works for you

  • Ask for less.

KinMap never asks for passwords, PINs, or full account numbers. Your family needs to know what exists and where to look — not how to log in.

  • You decide who sees what.

Nothing is shared until you invite someone, and each person sees only the categories and notes you choose. You can preview exactly what they’ll see.

  • Plain, calm language.

No fear, no legal jargon, no promises we can’t keep. KinMap helps your family find information; it doesn’t replace your attorney, advisor, or estate documents.

  • Keep it current.

A map is only useful if it’s right. A short review once a year keeps it that way.

KinMap is an informational continuity directory. It is not a will, trust, power of attorney, beneficiary designation, financial institution, or authorization to access any account, and it is not legal, financial, or tax advice.
